22 months!
Chatterbox.
Sutter just talks non-stop. Not sure where he got that from.
He is even making big sentences. Sutter make train go etc..
He has some favorite phrases. "All done x" which means he is
finished with whatever he is referring to. It started with
food, "All done pancakes" but has evolved do mean anything including
people. If he is frustrated with you he might say "All done
mama". It is quite funny. Of course the terrible two words
like "Mine, me do it, No" are coming fast and furious. We had
our first tantrum experience a week ago and are hoping we can make
it quickly through the terrible twos. We call him "brute
force" because he is just so active and so mechanical about things.
He manages to make things fit inside of other things even if they
really don't. He loves puzzles and has recently graduated from
5-10 piece puzzles up to 24 pieces. He has a few favorite
shows, the usual Thomas, Tractor Tom, Bob the Builder and Finley the
Fire Engine.
18 months!
Sutter is
definitely starting to show his personality. We call him the
"cheeky monkey" because he is so strong willed. He will not
put any new foods in his mouth no matter how hard we try to get him
to try new things. Whenever we say something he doesn't like,
"time for a diaper change, bath, nap etc.." he bends over slightly
and sort of grunts and then runs away. Sometimes he just goes
straight into the yoga pose downward dog (see photo below). This week he has added,
car, ball, more, wawa (water), choo choo, dump truck and our all
time favorite, "touch down" which has an accompanying gesture as
well to his vocabulary. Overall he is a very well behaved
mild-mannered kid but he definitely has a stubborn side as well.
Lately he runs to the cracker drawer and pulls out all of his
favorite crackers and cookies and chases after us yelling "cracker"
trying to get us to give him one. He loves to be given things
to do so we ask him to put things in the dirty clothes hamper or in
the trash. Unfortunately we have realized too late he LOVES to put
things in the trash when we aren't looking and we suspect that is
where many of our toys missing pieces have ended up.
He HATES
anyone getting in his personal space so both the recent haircut and
visit to the Dr. went over like a lead balloon. Luckily he still
likes the gym daycare so I still get a break occasionally. Our next
project is to get him to eat a broader range of foods. The
picky eater thing is ridiculously frustrating.
July 09
Grammie is
visiting and Sutter is in heaven with all the new attention.
He loves his trucks and zooms around the house pushing them all over
the place. We have a giant Mighty Tonka that is his favorite
and it goes everywhere he goes in the house. His language is
expanding daily and he is starting to say things that even people
outside of his family can understand. He loves going to
playgroup (see photo with red car) where he can play with heaps of
toys and other kids. We went to the beach for the first time
and he struggled at first with the sand on his feet. After an
hour or so he went all over the beach and then got a bit too close
to the waves and took a bit of a tumble in the water.
Hopefully he will get over it.

Today Sutter
said "sisi" to Sydney. It was so cute. Then he proceeded to
march into the kitchen and bang on the locked pantry door and yell
"Cracker" as loud as he could for a few minutes. He has also
mastered all the animals from the Little People Barn and can get the
Neigh Neigh, Oink Oink, Moo Moo or Baa Baa when asked.
Sutter at 16
months
Sutter has now progressed from walking to running. Unfortunately,
the poor guy spends probably 1-2 hours minimum in the stroller while
we are out running errands but so far he doesn't seem to mind so
much. When I finally let him loose, he just zooms around
opening and closing any drawer or door he can find. He loves to take
everything out of drawers but unfortunately he only likes to put a
few things back in. We are very lucky because he can play very
independently for long periods of time (up to 30 minutes) and he is
very easy going. He doesn't have much of a regular schedule
due to school pick-up/drop off constraints and other scheduling
items but he doesn't seem to mind. Since his crib is in the moving
container he is sleeping in a pack n' play in our apartment which
doesn't look very comfortable but he is still sleeping 7 to 7 so we
are counting our blessings.
Trucks- The boy loves his trucks. We read each of his truck
books at least 10x a day. When we are out and about he
yells and screams whenever a big truck or bus goes by.
Chatter Box- He is saying mama, dada, ball and woof-woof
all the time. He tries to say I don't know, bubba (for baby),
Sutter and Where is it. None of which are actually
recognizable but he is trying very hard nonetheless.
WOOF WOOF- Sutter (just like his sister) loves dogs. Every
time he sees one he yells woof woof and squeals in delight. It
is so funny because his whole body goes rigid with excitement.
Picky eater- After living in the hotel and then moving
here, the kids had a ridiculous amount of processed and fast food.
Now Sutter won't eat much of anything except for pizza, chocolate,
pears and yogurt. Oh no!
What is in a
name?
Sutter- All the family members in
Srima's family start with the letter S so we wanted our son to keep
up the tradition. The actual name has some inspiration from Northern
California where we have many fond memories.
Paul- Ray's
Grandfather, Ray's Uncle and Ray (as a middle name) all share this
name and we wanted to keep up the tradition.
The Birth Story
Labor
started around 1 am. Srima wanted to confirm that she was in "true"
labor and not "false" labor so she spent the next two hours
monitoring contractions and researching on the web to confirm that
her symptoms were truly labor signs. At 3 am she was thoroughly
convinced and decided to wake up Ray to join in on the fun. At
6 am we put our Birth plan in action (contractions about 8-10 min
apart) and then got ready to go to the hospital. By 8:15 am
everything started to go crazy. When you add up the facts that the
contractions sped up from 8 minutes to under 4 minutes in a span of
two hours, plus both our primary and secondary birth plans were
running late, plus the fact that Ray had to take care of Sydney and
Srima, by 8:45 we knew we were in trouble. At 9:07 we made a
mad dash to the hospital and Sutter arrived about 7 minutes after we
got there. Needless to say there was no pain medication
involved but he came out healthy and happy so we were content with
the fact that things didn't turn out any worse. Talk about an
adrenaline rush, a crazy story and a birth that doesn't fit in with
any "birth plan". Srima was pretty haggard, both
emotionally and physically, after the whole
adventure but is recovering bit by bit each day.
Sutter was
actually born on his paternal grandfather's birthday. What an honor
to Ray's dad.
